Trillium SIP Supports 3G

29th March , 2004

US : Continuous Computing Corporation (CCPU), the leading provider of high-availability Network Service-Ready Platform solutions for telecom equipment companies, announced today at Spring 2004 VON Conference and Expo the updated release of its Trillium(R) Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) signaling stack. Performance enhancements, new extensions support and third generation (3G) wireless network signaling are among the key features provided in this release.

In the burgeoning Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) market segment, advanced applications such as Push-To-Talk (PTT), Instant Messaging and Presence Protocol (IMPP), and Voice-over-WiFi (VoWiFi or ViFi) are creating exciting opportunities for carriers. In turn, these new service rollouts are putting greater demands on equipment manufacturers to deliver the backbone network infrastructure required to switch and route the traversing voice and data packets. This demand results in component providers delivering better performing, feature-enhanced products such as SIP signaling protocol technology.

"SIP is one of the most important signaling protocols in today's converged wire-line and wireless networks and serves as a key enabling technology for VoIP, push-to-talk, instant messaging, and presence applications," said Chad Hart, Senior Analyst, Venture Development Corporation. "CCPU is at the leading edge of next-generation telecom technological innovation with their Trillium SIP stack offering. Trillium's high-performance, feature-rich SIP Stack validates CCPU's commitment to providing leading equipment manufacturers the tools to continuously evolve their SIP powered products."

SIP has been adopted by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for use in its Release 5 (R5) all IP core 3G wireless network. SIP is a very flexible protocol and finds multiple uses in carrying various network data information and enabling supplementary services like call transfer, call hold and caller identification by a well-defined process, also called SIP extension support. The SIP solution versatility is evident from the fact that there are greater than 75 different extensions already present in the stack definitions.

"Our SIP solution is a transport-independent signaling protocol that establishes and manages many different types of call sessions, and its high-performance, flexibility and easy extensibility make it a very compelling product for our customers such as Alcatel and Sumitomo Electric Networks (SEN), as well as other Tier 1 companies who are deploying state-of-the-art SIP-based telecom solutions," said Neeraj Patel, Marketing Manager, Continuous Computing Corporation. "Advanced development methodologies and robust testing procedures gives us the edge required to meet the exacting standards of our customers, and provides them the capabilities required to deliver new and exciting applications into the market."

Continuous Computing's SIP protocol stack is now available and ready for customer delivery.
