EGPRS ( EDGE ) Test Set Launched

Racal Instruments launched its 6113 EDGE BTS test system at the CTIA Show, the first test system of its kind. EGPRS (EDGE) technology is an attractive option for mobile phone vendors since it triples conventional GPRS data rates without needing high levels of infrastructure investment.

As network operators convert base stations to become 'EDGE capable' there is the need to be able to test this functionality. A feature that is unique to Racal's 6113 base station test system is that it can test both the transmitter and receiver - conventional systems test only the transmitter.

Unlike current test systems that require the base station to be connected to the network, the model 6113 simulates the network so testing can be carried out without base station connection. This is a huge benefit; as with Racal's GSM solution, base stations will be fully tested prior to them entering service, ensuring the smooth and reliable rollout of an EDGE network.

Racal's 6113 has become the "industry standard" for base station test equipment over the past decade. To date Racal Instruments has delivered over 2000 units to customers around the world. Racal Instruments' customer list includes every major GSM infrastructure vendor and every major GSM Mobile phone service provider in the world.

The 6113 uses a multi-standard platform design. It is a compact, highly portable test solution incorporating three testing capabilities. It is able to simulate a mobile's transmitter to test the base station's receiver capability; it can also measure the base station's transmissions and verify the network command structures, which control
the base station.

European consumers will soon be able to experience the latest smart phones launched by SAMSUNG Electronics, the giant mobile manufacture, which includes the Palm OS based SGH-i500, the Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 based SGH-i700 and the SGH-D700, based on the Symbian OS.

Togabi Technologies and Samsung Telecommunications announced that Togabi's standards-based PacketCHAT client technology is being integrated into a new generation of mobile terminals built by Samsung.

The 6401 Air Interface Test System is a multi-standard instrument designed for the test and verification of 3G mobiles and terminals known as User Equipment (UE).
