|
The demonstratiion included the company's new Remote Radio Unit (RRU), a fiber fed, compact W-CDMA radio which extends the coverage range of UMTS base stations. "At Powerwave, we are committed to expanding our product offering beyond advanced RF power amplifiers to provide more value-added solutions for our industry leading customers," said Bruce C. Edwards, President and Chief Executive Officer of Powerwave Technologies. "Our Remote Radio Unit provides a high performance, low cost enhancement which extends the reach of today's base station architecture." Powerwave's RRU is a compact, low cost W-CDMA radio incorporating a linearised transmitter, two-branch diversity receiver and RF front end which provides improved downlink and uplink performance. With a total output power of 20 watts, the RRU offers a flexible, low cost deployment option to meet the coverage needs of initial UMTS rollouts. It can be mounted remotely from the main base station in a variety of locations, including rooftops, sides of a building, towers or poles. Multiple RRUs can be connected to each base station over a fibre optic interface, and can be located at a distance of a few meters to several kilometers. The wideband design supports up to four carriers to meet long-term capacity demands. |
