Kyocera
Wireless Corp. (NYSE:KYO), a leading provider of innovative CDMA wireless
handsets, today announced the Kyocera 200, a new CDMA2000 1X trimode
A-GPS wireless module.
The new module is compatible with existing CDMA networks and new CDMA2000
1X networks currently being rolled out by many wireless carriers. A
developer's kit is available from Kyocera Wireless and sample units
of the new module will be displayed at the Kyocera Wireless Corp. booth
(#1585) at the CTIA Wireless 2002 trade show in Orlando.
"Embedded wireless is a hot topic as the range of machine-to-machine
communication applications continues to broaden," said Craig Mathias,
a principal with wireless advisory firm Farpoint Group. "Kyocera's
200 Module is a terrific combination of form factor and industry-leading
features and functionality, including increasingly-important position-location
support."
According to Strategy Analytics, the global wireless data and computing
device market will grow from just over $70 billion in 2000 to $175 billion
in 2005. Kyocera's wireless module allows OEMs to integrate CDMA 2000
1X voice and data capabilities, along with A-GPS position-location capabilities,
for a wide range of applications, including telemetry, automotive telematics,
remote metering, wireless point-of-sale terminals, vending and auto
vehicle location (AVL). The modules also are well suited to mobile computing
products including PDAs, laptop and handheld computers, and other consumer
electronic devices.
"Kyocera's CDMA2000 1X module is an example of our continuing technical
leadership in CDMA wireless devices," said Stan Scheufler, corporate
vice president of product management and marketing for Kyocera Wireless
Corp. "The Kyocera brand is a trusted name in CDMA technology and
our new module's combination of high data rates, position location capabilities
and trimode functionality is the right feature set for a host of business
applications."
The Kyocera CDMA2000 1X module is the first module on the market based
on the QUALCOMM MSM 5100 chipset, making it compatible with existing
IS-95A/B CDMA networks as well as new CDMA2000 1X networks. The module
also features A-GPS position-location capabilities compatible with E-911
Phase II. The module's trimode capability (CDMA PCS 1900 MHz, CDMA digital
800 MHz and AMPS analog 800 MHz) provides seamless coverage using existing
wireless networks. In addition, the Kyocera module supports IS-2000
data rates of up to 153 kbps on the forward and reverse links.
Other features supported by the Kyocera CDMA2000 1X module include two-way
Short Messaging Service (SMS) capabilities, simple and mobile IP, AT
command interface, dual UARTs, analog audio, two RF connectors, high-speed
packet- and circuit-switched data, and support for both 13k QCELP and
EVRC vocoders. The developer's kit and programming tools to support
integration of wireless capability into OEM products and systems are
available for purchase by module customers.
