The HTC Desire and the Desire HD were due to be upgraded to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) before the end of May on Three. However, the date has been and passed without any sight of the update.
Three have now confirmed on their Twitter page that the update has been delayed due to a couple of bugs and that HTC have missed their release date. The update is due to launch shortly though and will launch sometime in June.
One thing that should be noted is that HTC themselves put the HTC Desire update as becoming available in the 2nd Quarter of 2011, which doesn't officially end till June 30th. HTC have already released the HTC Desire HD update, which is currently available for SIM-free versions of the smartphone.
The Android Gingerbread update brings a number of improvements including a new keyboard with a copy/paste feature, improved user-interface, better power management and support for mutliple cameras.
Once we at 3G hear more about the HTC Desire and Desire HD being upgraded to Android 2.3 we'll let you know.
