Europe UK : In the industry's first independent assessment of HSDPA device/chipset data throughput, Icera has emerged as the performance leader for commercially available HSDPA solutions with a 2X performance advantage.

Left shows the Icera Livanto ICE8020 Adaptive Wireless based solution - more below.

These independent tests, based on ITU (3GPP) approved test profiles, were performed by Signals Research Group LLC, a US-based research consultancy that is focused on the wireless industry. Working in conjunction with Spirent Communications, who provided the automated test equipment and engineering support, the HSDPA performance results were published in its June 25, 2007 Signals Ahead Report.

Signals Research highlighted that only a limited number of Category 6 3.6Mbps HSDPA solutions are available today. Suppliers with commercially available solutions identified were the Icera Livanto ICE8020 Adaptive Wireless based solution as well as devices and chipsets from Motorola, Nokia and Qualcomm.  A pre-commercial Ericsson Mobile Platforms (EMP) U350 platform was also tested as was the ‘next generation' Qualcomm MSM7200 chipset which has not yet been released in a commercial product.

Commenting on the HSPDA performance report, Michael Thelander, CEO of Signals Research Group said, "Under a number of realistic network conditions there is a substantial performance difference between HSDPA devices and chipsets from different suppliers. We believe these results are very timely and of vital strategic interest to the entire wireless ecosystem."

The results highlight that the Icera HSDPA solution, which features simultaneous equalization and receive diversity capabilities, was the clear standout in almost all circumstances compared to the current commercial solutions from other vendors. The only solution which came close on performance was a "yet to be released" next generation solution from Qualcomm, which supports similar capabilities.

Stan Boland CEO and President of Icera said "We are delighted that the Signals Research independent evaluation has validated that our first generation solution is leading the way ahead for the cellular industry.  We predict this gap in performance advantage will only grow as we push the envelope further with our Adaptive WirelessTM soft modem technology, with clear benefits to users, operators and device manufacturers alike.
