Europe : WCCTV has launched a new 3G-enabled remote live monitoring service using T-Mobile’s 3G network to deliver high quality CCTV images at unprecedented speeds.

Users now have remote access to live feeds at speeds of 14-15 frames a second, as opposed to the previous speeds of 1-2 frames a second. This means, for example, that police forces and local councils can monitor surveillance operations in real time wherever they are rather than having to be based in control centres, enabling quicker response times to incidents.

The new service works by equipping Wireless CCTV cameras with 3G SIM cards from T-Mobile. This connects the cameras to T-Mobile’s extensive 3G network, which enables live feeds to be downloaded from remote locations through an innovative supporting infrastructure. Previously the cameras ran on a slower HSCSD (High Speed Circuit Switched Data) network. The improvements in speed are expected to help in the fight against crime, anti-social behaviour and traffic accidents.

The main advantage of Wireless CCTV is that unlike fixed CCTV cameras which take time and money to move from place to place, wireless cameras can be relocated within an hour if necessary. Police forces and councils across the country already use WCCTV’s technology to monitor a range of activities from fly-tipping to anti-social behaviour.
