Advanced 3G 1xEV-DO Features in China

28 June , 2005

ASIA : Airvana, Inc. announced that it will present advanced 1xEV-DO features, including multicast, QoS and VoIP, to China's 3G community. These features will enable service providers in China to deliver innovative 3G services to consumers and mobile professionals.

Airvana is a pioneer in introducing all-IP 1xEV-DO solutions to market and is the first CDMA infrastructure vendor to demonstrate multicast, application-level QoS and VoIP in China. With over 14 million subscribers, 1xEV-DO is the world's leading 3G wireless technology and these advanced features extend 1xEV-DO's lead over competing technologies. By delivering these features to service providers, Airvana dramatically reduces the cost of delivering compelling mobile multimedia services to handsets and enables rapid adoption of 3G wireless.

Airvana's 3G Mobile International Summit & Exhibition demonstrations will include:

-- Broadcast and Multicast Service -- Airvana and Japan's
Kyocera Corporation (NYSE:KYO) have teamed to demonstrate
how operators can efficiently deliver rich multimedia
content such as movie clips, news and sporting events
simultaneously to a large number of mobile devices.
Subscribers can either view live content or the content
can be cached on the mobile device for viewing later. The
demonstration will show Airvana's 1xEV-DO Rev 0 Infrastructure
delivering video content to a specially modified version of
the Passport KPC650 1xEV-DO PC card from Kyocera's San Diego-
based subsidiary, Kyocera Wireless Corp.

-- Application Level QoS -- This feature allows multiple
network priorities to be assigned to different applications
running on the same subscriber device and is a key technology
for enabling commercial grade Voice over IP over 1xEV-DO.
Airvana's Application Level QoS demonstration uses Internet
Protocol (IP) technology and shows real time applications
operating at high priority and low latency (using Multi-Flow
RLP) and Internet downloads and multicast applications
operating at lower priority on the same subscriber device.

-- VoIP -- The addition of Voice Services using VoIP over 1xEV-DO
will bring operators significant flexibility to enhance their
revenues and reduce their capital and operating expenses.
Airvana will demonstrate live VoIP calls over the Internet
using its QoS enabled IP infrastructure. Airvana's Rev 0
infrastructure located in Beijing will interoperate with IP
based Soft Switches and Media Gateways based in Richardson,
Texas to make and receive VoIP phone calls.

"Airvana is committed to bringing the most advanced CDMA2000 1xEV-DO technology to China," said Randy Battat, CEO of Airvana. "Airvana is investing heavily in the development of new 1xEV-DO services, and is building upon its expertise in powering some of the largest 1xEV-DO networks in the world."

Service providers are deploying CDMA2000 1xEV-DO worldwide as a high-speed mobile data service for cell phones, PDAs and laptops. It is flexible enough to support mobile multimedia applications or act as a low-cost, fixed wireless broadband data service. 1xEV-DO can be deployed very inexpensively, either by upgrading an existing base station with a channel card or by overlaying the existing network with low cost CDMA2000 1xEV-DO base stations.
