Latin America : Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. and Cooperativa Telefónica de Calafate Ltda (CoTeCal), today announced the successful commercial launch of the first 450MHz CDMA2000 1x & 1x EV- DO end-to-end network deployed in the entire area of Latin America. With this solution CoTeCal will be able to provide rural areas not only with ordinary telephone communications but also high speed data rates for Internet interconnections. The network was implemented in the Chalten, Patagonia area, one of the most beautiful areas in Argentina where tourism is a main source of income.

Huawei' s 450MHz CDMA2000 1x & 1x EV - DO system provides voice, fax and circuit data services (up to 14.4Kbps). Additionally, it features a high speed data rate of up to 2.2Mbps using package data services through CDMA2000 EV-DO technology. An intermediate solution is also possible which allows customers to reach data services at the speed of 307.2/153.6Kbps by using CDMA 1x.

Huawei successfully demonstrated that the 450MHz CDMA2000 1x & 1x EV-DO solution is best for bringing voice and data services to areas where it is impossible to reach end users through conventional solutions such as copper or fiber optics. This deployment is very important from a social perspective because, according to Mr. Yu Dong, Vice President of Huawei Latin America, "with wider coverage performance and high-speed data service capability, Huawei's 450MHz CDMA2000 is a customized solution that is adapted to the local markets and can be rapidly deployed. We are committed to provide universal services to eliminate the digital gap in telecommunications markets." This allows isolated areas to be provided with remote services such as medical care and education.
