Vodafone Get 3G Support from Bechtel

22nd June , 2004

Pacific : Bechtel has been awarded a contract to provide project management and network planning support to Vodafone in Australia as they begin to deploy enhanced 3G services for their customers. The deployment, in the Sydney and Melbourne markets, is the first phase of the planned nationwide rollout for Vodafone, the largest mobile telecommunications operator in the world.

Under a consultancy agreement, Bechtel will support Vodafone with project management services including management of cost, schedule, and quality. The Bechtel team will implement and use its management tools to enhance the performance of multiple organizations involved in the deployment. Equally important, Bechtel will also support Vodafone's RF engineering efforts for network planning and optimization.

Bechtel, ranked as the top telecommunications contractor by Engineering News-Record in 2004, has also been providing Vodafone U.K. with design, procurement, and construction services to upgrade existing cell sites, build new sites, and install equipment to the cellular network infrastructure along 3,000 kilometers of rail lines throughout the UK.
