i-Mode Wireless In The Dog Club

NEC Taiwan announced it is going to provide i-mode contents for Taiwan's mobile operator KG Telecommunications Co, Ltd. (KG Telecom)'s i-mode services which scheduled to start from 2002. KG Telecom will be the first company in Asia (outside Japan) to introduce i-mode.

From the very start of the service, NEC will provide 3 i-mode contents: "N melody town", "THE DOG CLUB", and "Zoomancy." In the beginning of the service, NEC will be the sole supplier to deliver i-mode capable handsets, N530i. Putting together of N530i's 16 chord playing capability, 256 color screen, and NEC's experience with contents providing service in Japan, NEC is fully capable to provide popular mobile contents.

The following are detailed information of i-mode service contents:

"N melody town"
Ringing tone library, starting with 2000 tune of 16-chords, mainly Japanese songs, about 40 new tunes will be schedule to be added every month. In the future, Chinese music, and new sound capabilities such as voice ring tone will be planned as a new lineup for the service.

"THE DOG CLUB"
Not only in Japan, but very popular in Taiwan, "THE DOG" (digital contents provided by Arlist International)'s official site. For standby mode screen, a variety of fish-eye lens dog photos such as Welsh Corgy, Dachshund, will be displayed. New photos will be added every week, also it can be used as a display of greeting card service.

"Zoomancy"
The divination method where 12 animals are used for fortune telling. Daily/Monthly fortune telling, synastry telling will be delivered with colored images.

Last August, NEC has also won contract to supply core platform server system of mobile internet service to KG Telecom. The core platform system consists of gateway system and server system, which provide mobile internet service on the KG Telecom's GSM/GPRS network.
NEC is a total solution provider of mobile internet solutions, from handset terminals to mobile infrastructure systems, core platform systems and mobile applications. NEC has started its first overseas supply of GSM/GPRS based handsets in Europe and China, and also i-mode handsets to KPN Mobile group's Europe-first i-mode service in Germany and the Netherlands.
