announced the launch of an information portal to assist wireless developers
in creating mobile applications for QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime Environment
for Wireless(TM) (BREW) platform. The "BREW Wireless Resource Center"
(http://portals.devx.com/BREW ) offers news, tools and other useful information
about developing for the BREW platform.
As
interest in wireless applications development for third-generation (3G)
cell phones and handheld devices continues to grow, DevX created the BREW
portal to provide downloadable tools, news, original editorial content
and more to the users of DevX.com, the leading online destination for
application developers. Wireless developers can learn to create feature-rich
wireless applications and content for BREW-enabled devices. One tutorial
on the BREW portal demonstrates how a sample game -- EA SPORTS(TM) Tiger
Woods PGA Tour(R) Wireless Golf -- would be selected, purchased and downloaded
onto a BREW-enabled handset.

date there have been more than 11,000 downloads of the BREW SDK and, with
the 'BREW Wireless Resource Center,' BREW developers now have even more
resources at their fingertips," said Jeremy James, senior director

is a tremendous resource for wireless developers to learn more about the
platform."

QUALCOMM's
BREW platform is a thin application execution environment that provides
an open, standard platform for wireless devices. The BREW platform is
part of a complete, end-to-end solution for wireless applications development,
device configuration, application distribution, and billing and payment.
The complete BREW solution includes the BREW SDK(TM) (software development
kit) for developers, the BREW applications platform and porting tools
for device manufacturers, and the BREW Distribution System (BDS) that
is controlled and managed by carriers -- enabling them to easily get applications
from developers to market and coordinate the billing and payment process.
Carriers' BREW-based services will enable consumers to customize their
handsets by downloading applications over the air from a carrier's application
download server. The BREW platform is a product of QUALCOMM Internet Services
(QIS), a division within the QUALCOMM Wireless & Internet (QWI) Group
of QUALCOMM Incorporated.
