UK : A new 3G Mobile Virtual Network Aggregator ( MVNA) ( x-Mobility Limited ) enters the UK market and it has authority from 3 UK to provide a white-labelled Mobile Virtual Network Operator service within the UK.
One of the first to take up the option of an MVNO from x-Mobility is “Uni-Tel”. Uni-Tel’s target audience will be all students in the UK. Uni-Tel will be offering mobile network services on the 3 UK network.
x-Mobility say that they can get new MVNOs in the UK up and running on the 3 UK network much quicker and cheaper than going direct to an operator.
Basically, this is an easy route to market for new entrants to target its own customer base directly and offer mobile phones and sell contracts in the same way as mobile phone operator.
The MVNO services x-Mobility provides include :
- Own branding e.g. white label branding for network and USIM ( see above )
- MVNO brand on mobile phones
- Operations, customer and billing services
- Mobile phone number portibility and porting from other networks
