India : Photon, a next generation Internet consulting firm creating innovative e-business solutions with SOA, Open Source, and Web 2.0 technologies, today announced the Photon Mobile Lab, a research facility dedicated to mobile application development and testing. Based in Photon's new Estancia offices, in the IT corridor of Chennai, India, the lab provides a comprehensive testing environment for developers to ensure applications work flawlessly and consistently, no matter what combination of device, mobile operating system or carrier network is used. The lab eliminates the need for mobile application vendors to set up their own phone and network testing facilities, thereby saving them money.

According to IDC, 70 percent of mobile devices will be smartphones by 2010. As part of Photon's growing mobile strategy practice, the lab ensures customers can leverage emerging mobile applications as they converge with web 2.0 and social technologies -- such as Location Based Services (LBS), content sharing/delivery and rich calls.

Equipped with more than 200 phones that simulate a variety of user experiences, the Photon Mobile Lab includes application testing on voice and data networks, mobile operating systems, and different operating system versions running on multiple phone models. The lab supports all major network simulators to test phones in i-Mode, TDMA, CDMA, GSM/GPRS and 3G, as well as first-hand testing of battery life, download time and application consistency across platforms.

"Photon is at the cutting edge of creating mobile applications that solve enterprise problems for a company's customers, partners and employees," said Srinivas Balasubramanian, chairman and CEO of Photon. "In this highly diversified mobile market, our comprehensive testing environment gives us the broadest range possible of simulated user experiences, enabling us to stay ahead of business mobility trends and deliver trusted applications to our customers."

Photon's Mobile Application Development Practice specializes in Blackberry, Mobile Linux, Symbian, Cocoa and Blackberry mobile platforms. In order to provide customers with competitive, innovative solutions within a complex and diverse mobile environment, the mobile practice focuses on: consistent and scalable user experience across all mobile devices and operating systems; application integration of mobile and other web-based applications; and specific mobile application development issues like battery life, data speeds, etc.
