Europe
UK : Sky+ customers can now request a recording of their favourite
shows on the move. The Sky+ Remote Record service means people can
record their favourite TV programmes from a mobile phone now, and
coming soon online via Sky.com, wherever they are in the world.
It’s
the first time this service has been available on three different
platforms (mobile internet, SMS and the web) anywhere in the world
and is yet another innovation from Sky. It works with all versions
of Sky+ including the new Sky HD box.
Remote Record makes it easier to fit TV around our increasingly busy
lifestyles. Now if you’re delayed on the way home, need to stay
late at work or are just out and about with friends, you’ll
be able to send a recording request there and then.
So how does it
work?
1. Remote Record
via Sky by mobile TV listings
Viewers with a 2.5G, 3G or GPRS phone who have downloaded the Sky
by mobile1 application can view Sky’s seven-day TV guide on
their phone and select programmes to record on their Sky+ box. The
guide they see on their phone looks similar to Sky’s light blue
on-screen guide and enables people to browse listings and view programme
details on the move. There is no charge to use this part of the service
other than the phone operator’s data charge for using 2.5G,
3G or GPRS services.
2. Text your TV
The new service also works via text message and with over 60 million
phones registered in the UK2 is the most accessible way to request
recordings on the go. Sky+ customers just send a short message with
the programme details to a dedicated number.
3. Net that programme
on the web
This summer, people will be able to use the free Remote Record service
online via www.sky.com. Again it will be easy to use and select programmes
to record, with simply one click.
Brian Sullivan,
Sky’s Director of Customer Products and Services, said: “Remote
Record is perfect for those situations when you hear about a TV show
and want to record it there and then, or if you want to catch a particular
programme and you’re stuck at work, waiting for a delayed train
or even on holiday. We’re constantly innovating and adapting
our products to give customers the best TV experience, this new service
is a world first that adds to the choice, flexibility and control
millions of Sky+ users already enjoy.”
Millions of people
in Sky+ and Sky HD homes will benefit from the new service.
