Opera Browser to Feature in TD-SCDMA 3G Devices |
20th July,2004 |
Datang Mobile has made the world's first TD-SCDMA 3G handset solution and the world's first commercial TD-SCDMA handset. Opera will be embedded in the solution and offered to the handset manufacturers preparing for the TD-SCDMA. TD-SCDMA is among three 3G standards in the world and is set to deploy in China by mid-2005. With standardization as a key priority in the adoption of the network in China and for its eventual globalization, Opera supports all open Web standards necessary to browse the entire Web while operating on the TD-SCDMA network. Additionally, Opera will provide 3G mobile users in China the same unique features and functionalities that has driven the success of the mobile Internet experience in Europe. There are currently more than 200 million mobile users in China, by far the fastest growing mobile market in the world. "Opera is proud to be a part of the 3G migration in China with a leading player in the region's mobile industry, Datang Mobile," says Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. "We are eager to witness the exceptional Internet usability Opera can provide to sophisticated mobile phones for the homegrown 3G network." TD-SCDMA significantly improves network performance by processing traffic in both uplink and downlink directions in a single band, reducing interference and transmitting all data types through one user terminal. "TD-SCDMA is perfectly suited for mobile Internet access and multimedia applications," says Steven Chu, Mobile Handset Division Director, Datang Mobile Communications Equipment Co., Ltd. "And Opera is the perfect application to optimize Internet capabilities of mobile phones running on this specialized network, thereby providing users with enjoyable access to the full Web that will increase revenues per user."
