New Multimedia Wireless Services

21st July 2003

ASIA - Far EasTone Telecommunications of Taiwan has launched a new range of services which provide multimedia services to FET's Bravo subscribers. These new services include downloadable movie clips and MTVs for a variety of different GPRS and JAVA enabled handsets, and feature helloNetwork VSS java streaming technology.

The launch, on July 10th in Taipei, was attended by a large number of key mobile handset manufactures that included BenQ, Motorola, Nokia, Siemens and Sony Ericsson. Content providers participating in the launch included ELTA, Disney, mTEL, Sony Music and YOYO Rock records.

The range of handsets that support these new services includes SHARP i98, BenQ 830C, Motorola 388C, Nokia 3650, Nokia 7650, Nokia 7210, Nokia 6100, Nokia 6600, Nokia 7250 and Siemens SL55.

All of the content available for FET's primary Bravo users (which is based on the SHARP i98) is powered solely with helloNetwork's JAVA mobile video player. Forty different clips are provided to FET per month, all based on the VideoScreenSaver(TM) (VSS) product.

With the previous launch of VSS with Chung Hwa Telecom (CHT, the state-owned mobile carrier in Taiwan) late last year, ELTA and helloNetwork are covering over 60% of all subscribers within Taiwan today. Sally Chen, CEO of ELTA, comments "We will soon be deploying with the second-largest mobile network with helloNetwork-enabled content early next month, and we will be able to offer hNI products to over 92% of all subscribers in Taiwan"

"helloNetwork's technology is ideal for low- to mid-range phones, so it has far greater reach than any other mobile video solution," says Victor Siegel, CEO and President of helloNetwork. "With nearly 100% of all mobile subscribers in Taiwan able to enjoy video content on their handsets, helloNetwork is truly bringing high-demand mobile video to the masses."
