Nokia Lumia 820 & 920 Receive Windows Phone 8 Update

Nokia have confirmed that they've now begun rolling out a Windows Phone 8 update for both the Nokia Lumia 820 and the Lumia 920 (pictured above). Nokia PR1.1 , code-named Portico, is already available in the US and has now begun rolling out globally.

Owners of the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 can expect to receive an automatic notification when the update has become available in their area. The update, which will be delivered over-the-air, will roll-out to all markets by the end of February.

What improvements does Windows Phone 8 PR1.1 bring to Nokia's smartphones ?

The update, which was announced in December, brings a number of improvements to Windows Phone 8 devices.

The first is a resolution of the random restart bug affecting Windows Phone 8 devices, which alone is more than enough to justify the updates release. Other performance and stability improvements have also been added including more efficient and reliable Bluetooth, while both devices will now start-up faster.

What new features does the Windows Phone 8 update bring ?

Windows Phone 8 PR1.1 includes a number of significant new features with the first being the addition of support for draft text-messaging. To be honest we can't work out why it wasn't included in the first place and we're sure it'll be welcomed by Lumia 820 and 920 owners.

Microsoft have also added support for the deletion of multiple text messages and emails at once, which wasn't included in the original version of Windows Phone 8. The PR1.1 update also enables users to reply to calls with an automated text-messages for times when they can't take calls.

Enhancements have also been made to the camera software, while the battery life of the Lumia smartphones has also been improved . Additionally , the browser has also been improved significantly !

Overall, it's a pretty substational update and we highly recommend Lumia 920 and 820 owners to install the update. As always before installing the update 3G recommends users backup their data and settings !
