US / ASIA : Aicent Inc. has confirmed that NTT DoCoMo has chosen to use Aicent Roaming Exchange (GRX) service to provide seamless global data roaming service to its 51 million customers.
The Aicent GRX offers DoCoMo’s subscribers secure access to the i-mode and other 3G services offered by DoCoMo wherever they travel, an essential service enabled by the GRX network. Aicent has been operating its GRX network service since 2002, and is one of the largest GRX providers in the world today, with its network infrastructure in all major continents that reaches nearly all 2.5G and 3G mobile operators worldwide.
According to Frost & Sullivan, the number of mobile subscribers across Asia grew by 22 percent through 2006 to close to 1 billion while Japan’s mobile subscriber base alone rose to over one hundred million. For DoCoMo, Japan’s largest mobile operator and the first in the world to offer 3G service, over 30% revenues today are already generated by advanced data services, a trend followed by mainstream global operators. As such, data roaming has become an increasingly important service offering and GRX a mission critical enabling infrastructure for the mobile industry.
“Aicent is proud to work with DoCoMo to provide our 3GRX service in Japan,” said Lynn Liu, President and CEO of Aicent. “And we are confident to deliver a world class service as required by DoCoMo. This partnership highlights our continued progress and strong commitment to providing advanced data roaming, messaging and other next generation mobile data services to the global mobile operator community.”
