: T-Mobile Slovakia has become the first mobile operator in the country
to launch UMTS.
At
present, UMTS coverage is available in selected areas of Bratislava.
T-Mobile will expand the 3G network coverage to new locations by the
end of 2006. Currently, T-Mobile offers two 3G handsets: the Nokia N70
and SonyEricsson K608i.
At
launch, the operator made a live presentation of a video calling service
between the CEO Robert Chvátal and the 10 finalists of the Slovak
TV show PopIdol.
As
of yesterday, the operator made a video calling service available with
a monthly plan without an activation fee. Robert Chvátal said
that the company is happy to be the first to bring innovative services
like video telephony to customers. Furthermore, he stated that UMTS
technology and related services will complement its mobile broadband
Fast Internet network based on FLASH-OFDM technology which it launched
as a world first last year.
