Europe : Orange Slovakia today launched EDGE technology in its network. Company does not say, what speed is available through EDGE, but by my testing - average speed is between 16 – 20 kbits/s. -

Customers can select from two data pack – Orange internet klasik and Orange internet maxi.

Orange internet klasik – 15 euro / month – offering unlimited data and time, but only in work days (17:00 – 08:00) and weekends 24 hour daily, in other time is 0,9 euro per 1 MB. Customers which are using services of operator min. 6 months, can obtain this data pack only for 10 euro/month.

Orange internet maxi – 20,5 euro / month – offering unlimited data and time. This product is not limited for using in workdays or weekends. For customers which using services of Orange SK, the monthly price for this unlimited pack is only 15 euro.

Customers must abidance by rules - Fair use policy.

Orange Slovakia are now covering with EDGE - 51 slovak towns = 2,2 million people = 42% of slovak population.

Orange Slovensko offer two EDGE compatible devices:

Data card Sony Ericsson GC85 – 173 euro for Orange internet klasik/ 152 euro for Orange internet maxi users (all for 24 months contract)

Modem Zadacom (from slovak production) – connecting to USB port – by 17 euro for Orange internet klasik and symbolic 0,03 euro = 1 slovak crown, for OR internet maxi users – all for 24 month contract.

Now, both slovak mobile operators have EDGE technology implemented in their network. Orange have covered 2,2 millions people, EuroTel Bratislava (presented EDGE in june 2004) only 1,5 millions people.
