| New KDDI CDMA Wireless Handset 2D Codes |
|
6th January, 2004 |
|
KDDI expects the range of handsets with this application to increase rapidly in the future. Inset is the new Kyocera A5502K. Two dimensional codes are capable of storing a large volume of data, as they work to two directions, horizontally and vertically. Handsets equipped with the new EZ Appli (BREW™) will read the two dimensional codes, printed on magazines, goods and business cards, for example, and activate a wide range of functions programmed into the codes, such as data entry into address directories and databases, and internet access. In addition, as the au EZ Appli (BREW™) series is available for download over the internet, users will have the option to easily upgrade new versions of the code reader in the future that will accommodate new standards for two dimensional codes. KDDI has adopted an application with outstanding operability, the Two Dimensional Code Reader, developed by Mediaseek, Inc. (Representative Director: Naoki Nishio; Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; "Mediaseek"), to optimize incorporation a two dimensional reader into its EZ Appli (BREW™), Mediaseek will also provide a Code Analysis Program for the development of other applications utilizing the Two Dimensional Code Reader on the EZ Appli (BREW™) platform. This enables building various other applications supported by the EZ Appli (BREW™) platform, and will expand the possibilities of various other services that combine mobile handsets and two dimensional codes. *
The two dimensional codes supported are QR codes as defined in ISO standard.
The one dimensional bar codes of JAN codes are also supported. QR code
