The companies will focus on developing joint content and security solutions for wireless carriers and device vendors as well as pursuing relationships with specific market segments, such as handset manufacturers and mobile virtual network operators (e.g. Wi-Fi and W-LAN services). Together, LockStream and Itochu will offer the only currently available wireless embedded digital rights management (DRM) technology for secure distribution of digital content over those various networks. "Security
is vitally important to ensure that wireless carriers and other content
providers can control the distribution of their service and content
offerings," said Kazuaki Takada, Itochu's general manager of Mobile
Business Department. "We believe that LockStream's solution easily
works across all mobile platforms and its technology is proven. It is
the enabling technology that will make ubiquitous content a reality." LockStream provides the de facto standard in wireless DRM and is the world leader in embedded DRM solutions, working closely with the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). LockStream's software secures digital content on 2G, 2.5G and 3G devices, while its DRM technology supports virtually any operating system and any content type. "Itochu has unparalleled experience as a content provider and mobile distributor in Japan and the rest of Asia," said Soichiro "So" Saida, LockStream's vice president of international business development. "Its longstanding relationships with the region's key mobile operators and vendors positions it to remain a leader in the mobile content and services delivery marketplace and offers its partners and customers a winning scenario for content distribution, regardless of platform." |
