Samsung Win Best Smartphone and Manufacter At MWC Awards

The Mobile World Congress is drawing to a close in Barcelona for another year and the GSMA awards have now been awarded at the event.

Samsung had a fantastic 2011 with the release of the Galaxy SII, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Tablet and they rightfully beat Apple to the Device Manufacturer  of the Year Award.

Samsung's growth in the year has been fantastic and it even became the best selling smartphone manufacturer in 2011, although it should be noted that Apple trumped its sales in the last quarter of the year, due to the iPhone 4S launch.

As well as winning best Device Manufacturer Samsung also won best smartphone thanks to its Samsung Galaxy SII.

Samsung has now sold over 20 million Galaxy SII's since it first launched in April and its success only continues to grow. The Galaxy SII scooped the award over other nominees which included the iPhone 4S, Nokia Lumia 800, HTC Desire S and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Apple didn't get left out though because the Apple iPad 2 won the best tablet award over Samsung's Galaxy Tab , Asus's EEE Pad Transformer, Amazon's Kindle Fire and Acer's Iconia Tab.

A number of other awards were given out the GSMA at MWC 2012 including Best Mobile App (Angry Birds), Best Feature Phone (Nokia C3-00) and Best Consumer Mobile Service (Google Maps). We find it hard to argue with any of those awards and wonder what the awards could look like in a years time.
