Europe : ip.access together with Thomson, a worldwide leader in DSL Customer Premises Equipment, have announced the companies are collaborating to bring 3G femtocells to the mass market, and offer an integrated DSL residential gateway platform with 3G femtocell to mobile operators for millions of consumers worldwide. Above shows Femto3G.

The 3G femtocell gateway combines ip.access 3G Converge(tm) femtocell technology with Thomson's DSL gateway technology, to deliver a complete end-to-end solution for the mobile operator. A single device will give customers seamless 3G connectivity to their mobiles at speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps, in addition to their WiFi and DSL connection.

The combined solution will ensure a superior user experience, making high-quality voice and compelling 3G multimedia services such as mobile TV, music downloads and video available in the home on any 3G handset, delivered with unrivalled quality of service, network security and manageability. Consumers will also benefit from the easy installation and seamless operation of a single integrated device.

"We are very excited by the possibilities that femtocell technology offer us, to further enhance our innovative solutions for operators in the fixed-mobile convergence space, thereby enabling them to provide their users with even more advanced services. We chose to collaborate with ip.access because of their superior architecture and end-to-end solution which is the result of their experience and success in the picocell market." Said Bruno Fabre, Vice President of Thomson's Premises Systems business unit.
