Portugal : Optimus, the Portuguese network operator announces the
commercial operation of its HSDPA network in Madeira. The network,
based on the WCDMA technologies provided by Huawei, is the world's
first full-performance HSPDA commercial network which allows 14.4Mbps
high-speed data services. Above shows the E620 HSDPA connect card
used.
The legacy HSDPA networks
support only five code words realizing data rate no more than 4Mbps,
which means that the actual data rate available to the users is less
than 2Mbps. Such performance is far from the requirements to provide
simultaneous high-speed access for multiple users. The full-performance
HSDPA network, however, supports up to 15 code words realizing maximum
data rate of 14.4Mbps, enabling users to enjoy the real exciting 3G
service experiences. Featuring such great advancement, the launch
of full-performance HSDPA network by Optimus is regarded as a milestone
in the march to a new broadband age, just as Optimus CEO Luis Reis
said: "The launch of the full-performance HSDPA network in Madeira
proves Optimus successful effort in providing the most advanced HSDPA
services in the Europe or even around the world to its users.
As an important mobile
network operator in Portugal, Optimus has now started building its
HSDPA network throughout the country. Before the bidding for the nationwide
network, Optimus had teamed up with Huawei to utilize the total HSDPA
network solution of the later to cover Madeira.
