: Ubiquity Software announced the unveiling of an innovative, multimedia
music sharing application for mobile service providers. Designed primarily
for the youth market, mobile Music Sharing allows subscribers to share
their musical tastes and preferences with friends while meeting digital
rights management (DRM) requirements advocated by the music industry.

For
mobile operators, mobile Music Sharing is expected to increase both
voice and data revenues by stimulating the sharing of music and enabling
conversations about the latest music releases among communities of
subscribers.
Ubiquity's Music Sharing
application allows consumers with 2.5G and 3G mobile phones to meet
via conferencing to listen to music as if they were in the same room.
By letting service providers quickly develop and deploy a music sharing
service, Ubiquity enables service providers to take advantage of growing
demand for mobile music and differentiate their music offerings from
their competitors.
Mobile Music Sharing enables
subscribers to instantly share music with other "buddies"
based on their presence and availability. A subscriber initiates an
instant messaging (IM) session or conference call to notify his/her
friends of a new song they've just purchased. From within the IM session,
a user can initiate a conference in order to allow the group to communicate
in real time about the music file, which is played during the group's
audio conference session. Optionally, operators can extend to participants
via pop-up messages an offer to buy the shared music file at the end
of the call.
This application offers
service providers a way to seamlessly blend voice and IM communications
to trigger viral marketing for MP3 music downloads as well as drive
additional voice minutes usage. By combining the sharing of presence
information with the ability to blend multimedia communications into
a multi-person voice call, Mobile Music Sharing reveals how IMS architecture
can enhance a subscriber's mobile experience. With its ability to
stimulate both voice and data communications to a targeted community,
this service is expected to increase subscriber Average Rate Per User
(ARPU) and reduce subscriber churn.
"We are offering service
providers around the world the power to deploy instant group communications,
fostering a community of music sharing subscribers that will boost
ARPU and loyalty. Operators can generate more voice, data and mobile
music sales and increase the uptake of their offerings within the
youth market," said John Hart, VP of Product Line Management
at Ubiquity Software. "For the subscriber, mobile Music Sharing
finally enables sharing of mobile music with peers, something that
has been missing from current mobile phone applications. This exciting
application is another example of how we leverage SIP for service
creation to help service providers immediately monetize IMS networks."
While most vendors offer
pre-built music sharing solutions that restrict service provider offerings,
Ubiquity Software provides an extensible programming environment that
has no such limits. By developing and deploying music sharing on Ubiquity's
carrier-class SIP Application Server, carriers can choose the features
and functions they want in order to deliver a truly customized music
sharing service that's clearly differentiated from competing me-too
service offerings.
