Calif. : Vidiator and IPWireless announced that the companies have
signed a partnership agreement to jointly develop mobile broadcasting
solutions based on the 3GPP Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Standard,
or MBMS. The companies' solutions will be implemented initially as
part of a trial of IPWireless' TDtv mobile TV solution.
The companies will work
together to integrate Vidiator's new Broadcast Multicast Service Center,
or BMSC, into IPWireless' recently announced MBMS-based TDtv solution
to bring operators an advanced, high-performance mobile broadcasting
solution that's easy to implement within existing UMTS architecture.
"While everyone talks
about mobile television and its promise for the future, IPWireless
and Vidiator are acting on it," said Connie Wong, chief executive
officer, Vidiator. "Combining our advanced BMSC and Xenon streaming
technology with IPWireless' TDtv solution demonstrates to carriers
that we are capable of taking on this challenge of delivering this
broad new market opportunity to them in the here and now."
"IPWireless will partner
with what we deem the 'best-of-breed' technology to deliver the best
mobile TV and multimedia solution possible for mobile operators,"
said Malcolm Gordon, vice president, product development, IPWireless.
"By integrating Vidiator's next-generation BMSC into our MBMS-based
TDtv solution, operators have a powerful, tested solution easy to
integrate within existing UMTS networks."
Vidiator supplies streaming
server capabilities to UMTS and CDMA operators around the world, including
3 worldwide, CAT in Thailand, People in Hong Kong, Digi in Malaysia
and a number of customers in Europe. Vidiator is the world's leading
provider of mobile multimedia streaming, encoding and transcoding
technology and solutions. Vidiator's customer network reaches over
60 million 3G subscribers on four continents. The company has developed
a next generation streaming server that will support Broadcast Multicast
Service Center (BMSC). As defined by 3GPP Release 6 MBMS, the BMSC
is the element that controls broadcast and multicast content for both
TD-CDMA and WCDMA UMTS networks.
NOTE: IPWireless will demonstrate
TDtv in its booth, #AV40, at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona,
February 13-16, 2006.
