| O2 Personalised Video Messaging |
|
24th February , 2004 |
| Europe UK : Pulse Entertainment, the virtual character technology company, and Image Semantics, the mobile imaging company, today announced the launch of personalised video messaging in partnership with O2. The new service is the first launch of the wireless version of Pulse’s interactive virtual character technology in Europe. The service allows customers to select a character from a photo gallery and type in their own text message. Customers can do this through both web and wap interfaces. Advanced text-to-speech technology and character animation techniques, such as lip synchronisation, convert these words into a speaking and expressive character. The personalised message can be sent directly to a mobile handset as a video clip. The service is available across all networks and, through the use of industry standards for mobile video, avoids the need to install any additional client software. One of the first deployments of the application, called ‘Lip Service’, has been through O2’s ‘Mobile Model Search’ promotion (www.mobilemodel.o2.co.uk). Richard Sedgwick, Business Manager at O2, commented “In support of this major campaign we carefully selected a small number of value-added services from O2’s Revolution developer community which really demonstrate the future of media messaging. Lip Service had all the ingredients we were looking for – it is highly entertaining, easy to use and innovative while working with today’s technology. This service further strengthens O2’s data leadership position in the market.” Pulse Entertainment’s Veeper© technology for creating talking virtual characters that convey emotional behaviour has been licensed by Image Semantics. It has been integrated into Image Semantics’ mobile platform for personalised multimedia applications to deliver the character-driven messaging service. James
Pycock, Business Development Director at Image Semantics, explained:
“We wanted to extend video beyond pure content downloads and
into media messaging. The critical dimension of messaging is the personalisation
aspect. This service manages to bring that new dimension to video
by allowing customers to create and send their own individual and
unique video clips. We are delighted that O2 has adopted the service
for such a high-profile promotion of media messaging”. |
