3G In Greenland Makes Headway

14th December, 2004

Europe : Omnitele Ltd. has been contracted by TELE Greenland to support with the introduction of advanced multimedia and GPRS services and to prepare an optimal network migration plan towards 3G.

TELE Greenland is the incumbent telecom operator in Greenland providing fixed line, mobile network and TV broadcasting services. Together with Omnitele the company has commenced an ambitious project aiming to upgrade the network technology in order to introduce and provide the best and latest services available. The target is to expand the network to cover remote villages and hilltops, to include GPRS/MMS and to offer better speech quality and hence significantly increase the customer
base.

“Omnitele’s experience of developing value added services is a great asset for TELE Greenland. The time required for market introduction has been shortened and the deployment of best practises from day one is ensured” – Anders Barslund, Chief Commercial Officer, TELE Greenland.
“Omnitele’s in-depth knowledge of GPRS, EDGE and UMTS technologies, their hands-on expertise of technology implementations and great track record of co-operating with small and medium sized operators made them the natural choice for us. Omnitele work will cover not only long term network evolution planning, but also assistance in finding best practical solutions for the challenging conditions in Greenland and to minimise our capital expenditure.” – Frank Gabriel, Chief Technical Officer, TELE Greenland.

In the coming months Omnitele will support TELE Greenland with service development, network architecture- and expansion planning, technology analysis and supplier negotiations.

“We are very much looking forward to working closely with TELE Greenland, a company that has a clear strategy and vision to offer best quality mobile services cost efficiently throughout the vast country. TELE Greenland is an excellent example on showing how competitive services can be offered in low population density areas when the operator has the drive to find the right solutions. ” –

Esa Vesterinen, Head of Business Development, Omnitele Ltd.
