3G Reality Centre in Korea

8th December, 2004

ASIA : On the occasion of the visit to France of Mr Dae-Je Chin, the Korean Minister of Information and Communication, Alcatel and SK Telecom, Korea's leading mobile communications company, announced that they have signed today an agreement, to jointly open and maintain a 3G Reality Centre (3GRC) in Seoul, Korea.

This 3GRC will be located in an SK Telecom facility and will serve as a venue for the testing, integration, and development of GSM technology-based 2.5G and 3G mobile multimedia end-to-end solutions. The Centre is expected
to open officially in mid-December 2004.

Seoul's 3G Reality Centre represents a further step in the cooperation between Alcatel and SK Telecom. Previously, the two companies worked together to integrate SK Telecom's Video MMS Composer service with Alcatel's Mobile Multimedia Services (MMS) platform.

As Korea is one of the world's most advanced markets for end-users' mobile multimedia services, Seoul's 3GRC will give Alcatel wider access to SK Telecom's unique ecosystem of Korean mobile applications partners, while providing SK Telecom and other local companies with the ability to test and package their CDMA solution/platform/tools and services that will accommodate the GSM environment. Moreover, both companies will benefit from joint business development opportunities., and Alcatel will act as SK Telecom's overseas marketing channel for the solutions developed in cooperation.

"SK Telecom has always been at the forefront of innovation for attractive end-user oriented mobile multimedia services," declared Chung Nam Cho, Vice Chairman of SK Telecom. "Leveraging Alcatel's field-proven 3G Reality Centre ecosystem of partners, we expect to bring even more successful user-centric services to the global market," he added.

"Alcatel and SK Telecom have enjoyed a close relationship for quite a while, " said Philippe Germond, President & Chief Operating Officer of Alcatel. "At the heart of Alcatel's user-centric broadband vision, the creation of the Seoul's 3G Reality Centre is a further step in strengthening this relationship. We are confident that this will lead to
further opportunities for collaboration in the future."

Seoul's 3GRC is part of Alcatel's worldwide 3GRC program consisting of 14 centers worldwide out of which 6 are located in the Asia-Pacific region.

Alcatel's 3GRCs' ecosystem offers to operators, content and service providers as well as terminals manufacturers a live business environment for service innovation, dedicated to the development, validation, testing and demonstration of exciting next generation mobile applications and services.
