is David Potter Chairman of psion who is quoted below. The firm, which has suffered from lower corporate spending on Information Technology, announced the launch of the first Third Generation (3G) phones using its Symbian Operating System in Japan through NTT DoCoMo which will provide a welcome boost for the future. The manufacturers of Personal Data Assistants, wireless network technology and other mobile data and corporate networking solutions, said the top five global mobile phone manufacturers have all signed up for Symbian licences. In a trading statement, Psion said it expected operating profits for the year ended December 31, 2002 would be in line with management expectations and reported it had a strong balance sheet. Chairman David Potter said: “Enterprise markets in information logistics continue to be difficult as they have over the last 18 months. “Despite this, Psion continues to make profits and generate cash. Symbian is progressing well and realising our investment in Symbian at the appropriate time continues to be a key strategic goal. “In the meantime, the group has a sound balance sheet with cash resources more than sufficient to support investment in Symbian and organic development at Psion Teklogix.” Copyright ©2002 ManchesterOnline.co.uk All Rights Reserved.
