Going After Asia’s Color Wireless Handset Market

LG Electronics is increasing its stature in the Asian mobile handset market with products that deliver the entire core cutting-edge functionalities including color screen, camera, and streaming video capabilities.

The latest of LGE’s cutting-edge handsets were previewed at Telecom Asia 2002 - Asia’s biggest exhibition for multimedia and telecommunications organized by ITU.

LGE took part in Telecom Asia 2002 held from December 2 to 7, 2002 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center (HKCEL) to showcase its latest product range for GSM and CDMA color handsets as well as those for IMT-2000 services.

Telecom Asia is the bi-annual international exhibition for multimedia, information and communication industries organized by ITU. In this year’s exhibition, over 300 global leading telecom companies including Ericsson, Lucent, and NEC unveiled their latest in products and technology.

At Telecom Asia 2002, LGE set up a 150-sq.meter booth under the theme of “Expression Completed” to display CDMA color handset (Model: CU8080, etc.) that was introduced in China in October along with other new handsets for cdma2000 1x EV-DO, GPRS, and W-CDMA to highlight LGE’s technology leadership and to bolster its marketing drive with differentiated design and image as a high-end brand.

LGE’s handset booth is organized under the theme of “Expression Completed” to highlight LG as the leading high-end brand for handsets and is composed of five item zones - Color Zone, Camera Zone, 4-Gray Zone, Global Line Zone, and GSM Zone - to showcase over 40 cutting-edge products for each zone.

LGE also put color handset with organic EL - already a proven hit in Korea, slide-down type color handset with large LCD, next generation cdma2000 1x EV-DO handset - a VOD phone with embedded camera, and many other latest offerings for CDMA services. On the GPS side, GPRS color handset with color STN-LCD and 40-sound midi chip is grabbing visitors’ attention. A call demonstration using this handset is also a hit with visitors.

As the exhibition is held in Hong Kong - the heart of trade in Asia, LGE plans to leverage the exhibition to its fullest by promoting its strong product strength that confidently stands on par in quality and design with other major players while enhancing its brand status.
