3G
Conformance Test Bonanza |
4th December 2002 |
Inset above is Daniel Oosthuizen, Director for the wireless testing business of Anite Telecoms who is quoted below. Anite is planning to release additional 3GPP conformance test cases early in 2003, bringing the total number to over 500 and solidifying Anite's position as the leading supplier of 3G test case technology. Anite is the first test and measurement solution provider to offer a comprehensive set of proven test cases for UMTS mobile phone development and validation. Availability of the 200 3GPP conformance test cases from Anite resolves one of the industry's most troubling roadblocks. Many user equipment (UE) manufacturers have resisted investing in next-generation products as they wait for a reliable means of testing and qualifying the devices against 3GPP standards for wireless operation. This has slowed the development and delivery of mobile phones and other wireless devices for operation on UMTS networks, impacting the industry's broader introduction of 3G services. Anite's test cases will accelerate the delivery of 3G services by providing wireless carriers the assurance that UMTS handsets operate as intended on their respective 3G network. The 200 test cases from Anite are based on test specifications developed by 3GPP, the industry bodies responsible for defining the UMTS wireless standards and have already been proven against reference handset implementations. These test cases along with Anite's 3G test platform are now in the validation process required by the Global Certification Forum (GCF) to independently confirm their conformance to the 3GPP standards. Once validated these tests will be submitted to the GCF for approval and form the basis for the industry's acceptance of 3G mobiles. "Anite is pleased to extend its role in the wireless industry by being the first to deliver a comprehensive suite of 3GPP conformance test cases for handset development and conformance testing," said Daniel Oosthuizen, director, Anite. "These test cases offer UE manufacturers and network operators the confidence and surety needed to move forward with the introduction of 3G devices. We have effectively removed one of the last technical hurdles to UMTS wireless service and will be expanding our portfolio of test cases in the coming months." Availability The 200 3GPP-compliant test cases for UE development and conformance testing are available now from Anite alongside the company's development, conformance and interoperability testing platforms.
