“Seconds Out TV” is a video portal with the greatest boxing moments from the last 20 years. The portal can be accesed from 3G phones by video calling 84475, and then selecting 1 of 4 clips using the mobile’s keypad. “Seconds Out TV” is a great example of the type of video content that works well on mobile” says Jeremy Flynn, D2see’s CEO, “Its appealing ‘punchy’ content suits the mobile channel and users’ demand for 3 minutes of entertainment”. The next release of the D2see Oxygen platform is scheduled for Q1 ‘07 - to include 2-way video, live video feed and outbound video calling (initiated by the Oxygen platform). These market-leading new capabilities will enable 3G users to create their own content using the videocam on every 3G phone, and upload to internet and TV channels. With a wealth of management and technical experience in the mobile marketplace, D2see removes the complexity of delivering and monetising video services to mobiles, leaving content providers to focus on their core services of delivering high quality content and acquiring and retaining customers. Taking advantage of the video camera in every 3G phone, D2see can enable users to create their own content, and participate directly in mobile, internet and broadcast services. The D2see Oxygen platform consists of: Gateways - responsible for routing and optimising video delivery across the multitude of different bearers, networks and technologies. The Oxygen platform enables streaming by video calling technology – with IP delivery to follow once the technical and commercial landscape is favourable. The mobile video market is predicted to grow more than 11,000% between 2005 and 2009. In the first quarter of 2006 video usage exceeded ring tone downloads amongst the 3G-user base for the first time. The 3G-user base surpassed 6 million in September 2006, and is forecast to exceed 10 million by year end. Flynn is convinced that short clips consumed on impulse will drive the next phase of growth in mobile content. “The content market overall is worth £650 million in the UK but it’s stagnant because of ring tone mis-selling and the absence of new material to stimulate consumers. I think there’s huge potential in user generated content, 100 greatest type clips and so on. We’ll see a return to 40 per cent annual growth when these rich media services kick in.” |
