US : Tektronix announced the enhancement of its RF Scout Interference Hunter tool to include a TD-SCDMA scanner to support the emerging standard currently being deployed in China. The scanner, when combined with the RF Scout capabilities, offers network operators a one-box RF field optimization solution, enabling them to improve the RF network performance with the ability to check and troubleshoot coverage and interference issues on TD-SCDMA networks.

"With Tektronix' one-box, easy-to-use solution, we have been able to improve data throughput on TD-SCDMA networks by optimizing coverage while also reducing interference and lowering engineering field time," said Chen Guo Jing, Department Manager, Field Trial Department of System Integration and Test Division, China Potevio Co., Ltd. "The timely availability of this scanner, coupled with great interference capability, will help us deliver the quality and reliability that our customers have come to expect from the new TD-SCDMA standard."

The RF Scout Interference Hunter provides the necessary tools to hunt for RF interference and check signal quality in one rugged, handheld platform, enabling network performance planning and optimization teams to explore, discover, analyze and document interference, coverage issues and other signal quality problems in a field-ready tool. The handheld form factor, performance and durability make measurements convenient, reliable and accurate whether inside a building or outdoors. A new RF benchmarking capability recently added enables field engineers and technicians to make multiple measurements at multiple frequencies in one physical pass, eliminating walking back and forth or driving back to previous locations to take additional series of measurements.

Network engineers can identify cell coverage or interference issues and then diagnose the root cause using a combination of the TD-SCDMA scanner and RF Scout tools. By including the scanner as part of a one-box RF package that offers advanced co-channel interference and out-of-channel interference hunting capabilities, Tektronix provides customers a premium interference tool for TD-SCDMA networks.

"Tektronix is committed to enabling customers to quickly and effectively develop and deploy new technologies, such as TD-SCDMA," said Bob Hiebert, General Manager, Wireless Field Test, Tektronix. "Tektronix' extensive experience with emerging technologies gives us a unique insight into the requirements needed to support new standards in a timely way. The addition of the TD-SCDMA scanner to the RF Scout builds upon this focus, offering customers the right applications when they need them."

The TD-SCDMA standard is also available as an option to Tektronix' market-leading NetTek Field Base Station Tester. Tektronix was the first manufacturer to provide TD-SCDMA RF field test and measurement capabilities in a handheld form, enabling network providers, network equipment manufacturers and contractors to more easily diagnose TD-SCDMA Node B transmitter problems and effectively manage the roll out of the new technology.

About Tektronix' RF Scout

The RF Scout is part of the NetTek line of handheld, field test products for the RF interface and base station access points in modern wireless networks. The tool is also a component of Tektronix' market-leading network optimization portfolio, which also includes the Network and Service Analyzer and the Unified Assurance components.

The RF Scout provides spectrum analysis, interference analysis and logging tools, coverage tools, RF benchmarking and iMap in a hand-held, durable instrument. The combination of capabilities is ideal for network optimization, performance and planning teams. With its Windows-based user interface, the RF Scout simplifies operation and makes the process of moving data and maps on and off the instrument effortless. The rugged form factor and optional all day battery life make the RF Scout a true field instrument.
