Patent for Mobile Content on Memory Cards

22nd December , 2005

Europe UK : Mobile technology development company, ROK Entertainment, announced today that it is to be awarded a patent for the technology it has developed for storing audio-visual content on memory cards for play on mobile phones and other mobile devices.

ROK's patent application (GB 2410817) describes the process of placing audio-visual media content onto memory cards and then converting the content into a format that is ready for playback on mobile devices.

There are some 34 separate claims in ROK’s overall patent application covering the automated process for converting content to memory cards and the full-screen playback of content on mobile devices as well as ROK’s proprietary content security and DRM solutions.

The UK patent will be granted in January 2006 and ROK also has patent applications in other countries.

The grant of the patent is an important step for ROK - a key player in the new content-on-memory-card sector that is tipped to become increasingly significant to mobile retailers and content owners – as the market for high quality content-loaded memory cards is increasing rapidly.

The patent puts ROK in a strong position to dominate this new and growing business worldwide.

“We knew we had invented some very special technology when we completed the development of ROK Player.” said Jonathan Kendrick, Chairman and CEO of ROK Entertainment “And to be awarded a patent means we can now push ahead with the global roll-out of our content-loaded memory cards.”
