US : The CDMA Development Group and Axesstel announced that the CDMA Certification Forum (CCF) has certified two CDMA2000® 1X phones for commercial availability Axesstel L800 and P830 Fixed Wireless Desktop Phones. Using the streamlined test and global certification process developed by the CCF, Axesstel was able to prepare its two new fixed wireless phones for commercial availability using the NEWS IQ test facility located in San Diego. The two phone models were tested in parallel using the standard CCF Lab (CCF-L) test plan that increases the number of test cases conducted by 40% over the traditional CDG test process. The devices were tested and certified within three weeks. "With these phones we have demonstrated that using the CCF certification process, CDMA2000 devices can be tested and certified in less time with increased test coverage and at a cost of 20% of the traditional test process," remarked Thom Erickson, president and CEO of the CCF. The CCF certification will permit Axesstel to commercialize these two devices worldwide. "We are pleased to be the first manufacturer to have devices certified using the CCF test process," commented Lixin Cheng, chief sales officer and president of the fixed wireless group at Axesstel. "By using the CCF test process we are able to bring these devices to market quickly and at a lower certification cost." As an independent testing and evaluation laboratory that supports the rapid commercialization of next-generation CDMA devices, NEWS IQ (www.newsiq-inc.com) is the first of many labs around the world that will expedite the commercial availability of CDMA2000 devices using the lower-cost and non-proprietary CCF test process. "The process went smoothly," according to James Fraley, CEO of NEWS IQ. "The modem layer functionality, product conformance and essential performance characteristics of the devices were certified in record time," he added. "The time and cost savings realized by the CCF testing process will ensure that CDMA operators worldwide can address the growing demand for CDMA2000 devices, including very low-cost handsets," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "This significant milestone clearly demonstrates the value gained from evolving the existing CDG test process and marks an essential step towards continued commercialization of CDMA2000 3G technologies."
