| Lucent Offers Wireless In-Building |
3rd December , 2003 |
Lucent's wireless In-Building solution supports both Lucent and non-Lucent products. In networks supported by Lucent equipment, the services announced today complement Lucent's Bell Labs-developed Flexent® OneBTS® family of base stations, including the Flexent® Modular Cell 4.0 Compact, a recently announced high-capacity CDMA2000® base station with a small footprint that is extremely well-suited for In-Building applications, and the Flexent® OneBTS® base station for UMTS/W-CDMA networks. Lucent's end-to-end suite of wireless In-Building services is specifically designed to improve wireless in-building coverage. These include RF (radio frequency) coverage assessment, design and optimization; program management; deployment services; and post-deployment services, including maintenance, on-site technical support and network monitoring. Lucent's In-Building services work with multiple wireless technologies, including CDMA/CDMA2000, TDMA, GSM/GPRS, W-CDMA/UMTS, 802.11x, iDEN™. Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS) will manage and deploy the In-Building solutions. "Lucent has successfully deployed wireless in-building solutions for more than 100 wireless service providers and enterprise customers," said Nick De Tura, vice president of Deployment Services, Lucent Worldwide Services. "We have an 'in-house' services organization including highly trained and certified RF engineers who understand spread-spectrum and RF technologies to help mobile operators design and optimize wireless in-building networks with optimal coverage and capacity. This is particularly important because a building's layout, architecture, location, number of inhabitants, and many other variables have an impact on the RF or signal requirements of the mobile network." Lucent also announced non-exclusive reseller agreements with four distributed antenna systems (DAS) hardware firms, including Andrew Corporation, Kaval Wireless Solutions, Inc., LGC Wireless, Inc., and RFS. These multi-vendor agreements enable Lucent to provide a full end-to-end in-building solution for customers looking for one company to handle their in-building communications needs. Lucent has a team of experts that can help service providers and enterprises select a wireless in-building and DAS solution with the right capacity and RF optimization requirements to help ensure In-Building and macro network interoperability. In addition, Lucent engineers have the experience to develop the processes and the methodologies required for efficient wireless in-building design and implementation. Leveraging state-of-the-art tools and in-depth knowledge of mobile networks, Lucent engineers are able to seamlessly integrate wireless in-building networks with the customer's existing macro networks, thereby minimizing interference issues and maximizing overall network performance. Lucent also can provide mobile operators with a comprehensive survey of a building's current and future requirements for wireless in-building applications. LWS has more than 10,000 network professionals serving all 30 of the world's leading service providers as well as enterprises, cable operators and government entities. LWS offers a broad portfolio of services focusing on four strategic areas: --
