| Vodafone, T-Mobile Set to Acquire More 3G Spectrum |
|
5th December , 2003 |
| Europe : Telecom Paper in the Netherlands has reported that Vodafone and T-Mobile are expected to be the only bidders for two additional chunks of 3G spectrum which are expected to be resold by the German government, according to an article in Daily Telegraph. The spectrum is expected to be handed back to the German regulator by Quam and Mobilcom, which have suffered financial problem. The spectrum is expected to be re-sold for around EUR 100 million for each chunk, which is a fraction of the EUR 6 billion paid by the companies for their original spectrum. O2 Germany and E-Plus are unlikely to bid for the spectrum, according to Rudi Groeger, chief executive of O2 Germany. Groeger believes that the lower price for the spectrum could create problems for Vodafone and T-Mobile, neither of which has so far written down the value of their 3G licences. Both O2 Germany and E-Plus have written down the value of their 3G licences. Source
