"Our 1-million client target by the end of March may be postponed by several weeks," 3 Italia's chief executive Vincenzo Novari ( inset ) said in an interview with Borsa e Finanza business weekly published on Saturday. "We blame a strong delay in deliveries from NEC, while we see a growth in demand and a perfect technical situation in network and services," Novari said. He said 3 Italia had about 300,000 clients and 120,000 more on waiting lists now. 3 Italia is trying to carve out market share before Italy's bigger mobile operators like Telecom Italia Mobile and Vodafone launch their high-tech services. The news follows the admission by 3's parent Hutchison Whampoa earlier this month that its 3G break-even target had been pushed back by at least a year by handset delivery problems. 3 Italia is one of nine 3G ventures worldwide controlled by the Hutchison group.
