Blackberry launched the Blackberry Torch 9800 this week. It is their first smartphone with Blackberry OS 6 and also features a touchscreen in addition to the traditional QWERTY keyboard.

We have now learnt that Blackberry OS 6 will also be available for some already released Blackberry smartphones. These are the Blackberry Pearl 3G, Blackberry Bold 9650 and the BlackBerry Bold 9700. Of course, these three smartphones don't have a touchscreen yet all the other benefits of upgrading to Blackberry OS 6 will be there.

BlackBerry OS 6 brings a number of improvements including a new WebKit browser , which will provide a faster more reliable browsing experience and also enables tabbed browsing. At this stage it is not clear when the Blackberry OS 6 update will be ready for the Blackberry Pearl 3G, Blackberry Bold 9650 and the BlackBerry Bold 9700. The formal details are that it will happen in the coming months.
