Europe Germany : In July 2006, the Global Certification Forum (GCF) has added conformance testing for the 3G-324M Video Telephony application to the Application Enabler (AE) test requirements as a further precondition for obtaining the handset certification. The appropriate test cases have been successfully validated by CETECOM’s Validation Competence Centre.

But not only GCF requires a successful conduction of these conformance tests: also the PCS Type Certification Review Board (PTCRB) has added them to its catalogue of requirements.

According to its strategy to be one step ahead of the development, CETECOM has invested in a new Video Telephony test platform at an early stage. The new IXIA test system IxMobile complements the existing AE testing capacities at CETECOM’s mobile communications test centre in Feldkirchen (near Munich) and enables CETECOM to offer the complete range of Application Enabler test services as required for GCF and PTCRB certification.

Most of the new 3G handsets being introduced in the market now support the 3G-324M Video Telephony application. Video Telephony is regarded to be a big accelerator for 3G adoption, and hence calls for attention from all market participants – the network operators and handset manufacturers as well as the users. 3G-324M supports the real-time streaming of multimedia broadband wireless communications by routing traffic over the circuit switched network. Being circuit-switched based, it is ideal for streaming real-time multimedia, including a fixed delay, low overhead of codecs, and no IP/UDP/RTP header overheads.
