Europe Germany : Since at the beginning of August is so far it: For the first time it gives in Germany more portable radio connections than inhabitants. To 1 August 2006 the number of the connections rose to 82.8 million. That communicates the Federal association information economy, telecommunications and new media (BITKOM) in Berlin.

It raises thereby its prognosis of beginning of the yearly: Originally this mark should be cracked only to the turn of the year. "the favorable price history and the unbroken trend to the secondary mobile phone accelerated the development in the past months", avowedly BITKOM president Willi Berchtold the dynamics. The digital portable radio started in Germany 1992 and could win one million in the first year scarcely customers.

This number rose to at the end of of 1996 to 5.6 million, the strongest boom began with introduction of the Prepaid maps in the years 1999 and 2000. But also in the future increases are possible: Italy concerned in the meantime at a spreading rate of 120 per cent. Also the number of the UMTS connections in Germany grows kontinuier¬lich. To the midyear 2006 were for the first time more than four million UMTS customer registered - nearly a duplication in relation to 2.3 million at the end of of 2005. "UMTS is in the meantime the engine in the portable radio", says BITKOM president Berchtold. UMTS contributes already today with approximately 70 per cent to growth with the portable radio connections - one year ago were only 20 per cent.
