ASIA
: KDDI, in collaboration with Qualcomm, Inc., has decided to develop
an integrated platform for mobile phones and, in the uniform development
of basic software, to encourage commonality among mobile phone manufacturers.
The Company aims to strengthen its cost competitiveness in the development
of mobile phones, an industry characterized by the continuous advancement
and ever-increasing complexity of its software.
In the development of basic applications for mobile Internet, such as browsers and mailers, for its au mobile phones, KDDI conventionally attained commonality of software among various models through the KDDI Common Platform (KCP), using Qualcomm's MSM™ chip set and BREW® as its base. The new integrated platform is not limited to basic applications, but expands the range of commonality for mobile phone software to almost all areas, including OS and middleware. In addition, KDDI will provide the integrated platform to mobile phone manufacturers, contributing to a reduction in costs and development time. The platform's introduction will also allow mobile phone manufacturers to concentrate development resources on elements that distinguish phones from one another, such as design, user interface and mounted devices. The integrated platform employs the MSM7500™, a highly efficient single-chip LSI developed by Qualcomm, and is expected to significantly enhance multimedia functions while accelerating response to the EV-DO Rev. A, the latest wireless communications system. Based on its partnership with Qualcomm, KDDI is collaborating with Sanyo Electric Co., Ltd. and Toshiba Corporation on platform development, and will provide the platform to both existing and emerging mobile phone manufacturers. * CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev.A: Standard
that further improved and accelerated the "1xEV-DO system"
for au's CDMA 1X WIN mobile phones, enabling data transmission speeds
of 3.1 Mbps and 1.8 Mbps for downloads (base station to mobile phone)
and uploads (mobile phone to base station), respectively. |
