Australia
: In an Australian first, 3 mobile today launched the first 3G multiplayer
mobile game. Utilising the speed and technology of the advanced 3G
network, 3’s multiplayer mobile game allows customers to play
against real opponents in real time.
The first
multiplayer game, on 3, called ‘Badlands’ is a Java-based,
tank style game, set in a post-apocalypse world. It allows players
to see their opponent’s movements with minimal to no lag time.
3’s
General Marketing Manager Peter Burr says the launch of the first
3G multip.layer game is another example of 3’s leadership in
mobile innovation.
Burr
says, “Badlands is an advanced mobile game which brings a real
element of fun to 3’s current content. Developed by a young
Sydney-based company called Viva La Mobile, we’re proud to say
Badlands has been developed in Australia, by Australians”.
3’s
first multiplayer game represents a new and exciting category in mobile
games. On ‘Badlands’, players can not only play against
others, but can also select their weapons and choose different vehicles.
They can also enter ‘rooms’ to play against each other
or designate a private room to play against their fellow friends on
3.
“We
are offering our customers a great deal of fun without the need for
a dedicated gaming handset. Badlands will be available on most 3 handsets
including our most popular models. We are expecting ‘Badlands’
to have great appeal amongst gamers as well as consumers who can choose
to play either a difficult or easy version of the game”, concluded
Burr.
Badlands
is available on two servers designed for different experience levels.
This allows consumers to opt to play against people of similar skill,
making the experience more rewarding and longer lasting. Free to download
and just 50c for seven lives, Badlands is both exceptional value and
avoids pricing confusion for customers. Unlike some other mobile games,
there is no network usage or data charges.
