US :
Symmetricom, Inc., a leading supplier of network synchronization and
timing solutions, today announced that during the fourth fiscal quarter
of 2004 ended June 30, it received over one million dollars in orders
from Samsung Electronics. These orders for base station synchronization
modules support the expansion of 3G WCDMA and CDMA-2000 3G wireless
networks being deployed by SK Telecom in South Korea. All orders are
expected to ship by December 31, 2004.
"Symmetricom has been a key supplier to Samsung for its CDMA
and WCDMA base station products since 1999, and we are proud to be
participating with them in this exciting new market," said Phil
Mann, vice president of OEM business for Symmetricom.
In June 2003,
SK Telecom announced that it selected Samsung Electronics as a primary
equipment provider to launch the company's WCDMA service, a third-generation
(3G) mobile wireless technology. SK Telecom launched the service in
Seoul at the end of last year and is expanding network coverage into
other areas of South Korea. Synchronization is an essential foundation
technology for any wireless network. Specifications for 3G networks
such as WCDMA and CDMA-2000 are particularly stringent, requiring
precise and accurate timing to ensure stable air interfaces and interoperability
between networks.
