New NEC e228 Phone

12th August ,2004

Europe : The next generation of mobile phones are sweeping the UK. Consumers can no longer just speak to friends and family while they’re on the move, they can also see them wherever and whenever they want to. They can download or stream news, entertainment and movie clips, listen to the hottest chart music, send and receive emails and multimedia messages (MMS), or play the latest games, all from their mobile phone.

NEC was the first company to launch ‘3G’ mobiles in the UK, and has just added the sixth brand new device to its portfolio. The e228 has a full range of cutting edge features to let consumers take full advantage of the range of exciting multimedia, next generation messaging and data services available across the 3 network.

This small and stylish device allows consumers to browse exclusive and regularly updated content including full-length music videos from BMG, football action from the Barclays Premiership, video clips from the latest film releases or ITN News bulletins, anytime, anywhere.

The slim, bar format handset is ideal for consumers looking for all the services 3G has to offer, at a competitive price but without compromising on style. Measuring 129×53×21.5mm and weighing just 125g, it features two high resolution cameras, one on the front and one on the back, which both enable video telephony and allow the capture of still and video images. A speakerphone is also included to allow hands-free video and voice conversations.

The e228 offers fantastic ability to film video footage and take pictures. Video clips and still images can be shared with friends and family by MMS (Multimedia Messaging Services) or e-mailed to a PC anywhere in the world. Adding personal touches to the e228 is easy: the device can store up to thirty 40-channel polyphonic ring tones, and photographs can be set to identify incoming callers.

The handset is also dual mode (3G and 2/2.5G), ensuring fast, and “always-on” access to 3’s portal. It features JAVATM technology for the latest games and applications include a built-in MP3 player to allow customers to listen to music on the move, and a memory card slot for a Sony MemoryStick DuoTM.

Like all 3 video-mobiles by NEC, the e228 is connected to the Internet and can synchronise with Outlook Calendar and other PC applications, making them suitable for personal as well as professional use.

“We have designed the e228 in response to the growing consumer demand for 3G services. With the e228 there is no compromise on either functionality or style, and it has been designed in close partnership with 3 to allow consumers to enjoy all the fun and convenience of 3G at a competitive price,” said Tony Hutson, Director, NEC UK. “Meeting technical and style requirements, the e228 brings a greater choice of content and services for each individual taste.”

The new e228 handset will be available across the UK in over 7,000 shops that stock 3 products and services.
