US : ORGA is the world's first card manufacturer to offer a (U)SIM card with a 256-kilobyte EEPROM in its product portfolio. With this achievement, the company sets new standards in the SIM card arena. As a result, mobile network operators will have more opportunities to improve the range of card-based value-added services and therefore offer their customers even better service.

SIM cards currently have an EEPROM ranging from 32 to 128 kilobytes. The majority of this memory area is used by operators to provide value-added services based on SIM Toolkit technology. These services have established themselves very successfully in the market and have now become an indispensable means of generating revenue. However, the large number of value-added services means that capacity limits are reached relatively quickly. The new "USIMtelligence 256" from ORGA enables mobile operators to store far more revenue-boosting services on the (U)SIM card. Unlike the flash memory cards currently available as prototypes on the market, the entire EEPROM can also be used for user data.

Like its "smaller brothers" with a 64k and 128k EEPROM, "USIMtelligence 256" is a Java™ card with a UICC file system and can be configured as desired for GSM and UMTS. As with its predecessors, "USIMtelligence 256" offers highly sophisticated memory management with physical defragmentation and supports the Bearer Independent Protocol that permits rapid downloading of applications. In addition, data transfer rates of up to 300 kbit/s between the terminal and card are supported.

With its USIMtelligence 256, ORGA marks yet another milestone in SIM card development and offers additional proof of its technological leadership in the field of smart cards.
