Lara Croft Goes Wireless

20th August 2003

Europe : Lara Croft's latest Tomb Raider adventure could put her in front of hundreds of millions of new players, thanks to mobile games studio IOMO and video games publisher Eidos.

A new game for mobile phones, entitled Tomb Raider: The Osiris Codex, will be released in the US and Europe. It will be available through soon to be announced network operators and will feature heavily in their Autumn marketing campaigns. The game will be released in three parts, starting with Episode 1, The Osiris Codexwhich will be available in the Autumn.

The game has been created for the latest generation of Java-enabled phones with colour screens including the Sharp GX10, Sharp GX20, Nokia 3650, Nokia 7650, Nokia 7210, Nokia 6200 and Motorola T720.

The game has been created as a side-scrolling platformer. Lara can perform all of the signature moves, such as running, jumping, crouching and climbing which have made her a gaming legend. As she progresses, Lara can pick up useful items and store them in her backpack for later use. She can also push and pull certain items within the game, to gain access to otherwise unreachable areas. Lara will of course, have her trademark pistols to hand in case they are needed.

The game also contains a number of hidden areas and secret items which can be discovered by vigilant Tomb Raiders on the game website www.tombraidermobile.com, where they can pick up hints and tips about the game and find out more about forthcoming episodes.

Lara Croft is quite simply the biggest star of the video games world, says John Chasey, the Managing Director of IOMO. We are delighted to extend our relationship with Eidos and bring Tomb Raider to mobile phones and a potential audience of millions of new gamers around the world.

Simon Protheroe, Technical Director Eidos comments: We wanted to work with a developer who we felt understood the franchise and could translate Lara's world onto mobile technology as sympathetically as possible. IOMO have proven they understand the technology and have created a valuable new addition to the Tomb Raider franchise .

IOMO's expertise in mobile entertainment development was recognised recently, with the company being nominated as one of the UK's leading mobile games studios by Develop magazine.
